Adidas boxing gloves come in different ranges, materials and fastenings. If you are replacing an older pair, the brand name and colour are not enough to identify an equivalent model. Start with the model name printed on the label or packaging, then compare its intended use and fit with the current options.
Identify the model and weight
Make a note of the model name, ounce weight and fastening. If you liked the fit of the old pair, note what worked: the finger space, thumb position, cuff length or ease of putting them on. These details are more useful when choosing a replacement than trying to match a red-and-white colourway.
Do not assume a newer glove with a similar name has the same dimensions. Product ranges can change, and retailer listings sometimes group several variants together.
Compare the fastening and outer material
Hook-and-loop gloves are convenient when you need to put them on and remove them yourself. Lace-up models usually need help to fasten. Choose the system that works for your classes and check whether your club has a preference.
Read the material specification for the particular model. Broad descriptions such as “training gloves” do not tell you whether the outer is leather or synthetic, how the lining is constructed or how the cuff adjusts.
Check fit rather than relying on the old ounce label
The same ounce weight can feel different across ranges. Try the gloves with your usual wraps and check the finger space, thumb angle and wrist closure. If your old pair has stretched or become heavily worn, a new glove may feel different even when the model has not changed.
For sparring, ask the coach to confirm the required glove weight and suitability of the model. A retailer describing a glove as suitable for several activities does not replace the club’s equipment rules.
If your previous model is no longer available
Use its features to narrow your options, but remain open to a different model or brand. A comfortable replacement with the correct fastening and training weight is more useful than a visually similar pair that pinches.
